Parent activities at Hagaskóli
There is a targeted effort to increase dialogue with parents and strengthen their involvement in school activities. Each school has an operational parent association, parent council, or school council.
Hagaskóli's Parent Association
Hagaskóli has an active parent association as per the Compulsory School Act. The board of the parent association is usually elected at its general meeting at the start of the school year. Among other things, the parent association's board is responsible for electing representatives to the school council. The parent association fulfills various roles, including providing educational opportunities for parents at the school, organizing the spring trip for 10th-grade students, and more.
Responsibility and rules
The school principal is in charge of establishing the parent association and ensures that the association receives the support it needs. The role of the parent association is to enhance the school's efforts, foster student well-being, and reinforce connections between home and school.
Each school's parent association defines its own rules of operation, including the election process for its board and the selection of representatives to the school council.
The parent association of Hagaskóli meets regularly on school premises.
While the parent association doesn't have a specific project schedule for the school year, it is responsible for activities such as planning and coordinating the Parent Patrol, orchestrating the 10th-grade spring trip, and handling various other assignments.
Goals:
- Support the school's educational efforts
- Promote the welfare of the students
- Reinforce the connection between homes and schools
- Encourage active guardian participation in school activities
- Advocate for, preserve, and oversee the quality of the school's work
The board of the parent association creates a project schedule for each year, publishing it on the school's website when ready. Names and email addresses will be recorded after the parent association's general meeting in the fall.
Home and School have issued handbooks for parent representatives at all educational stages. These outline the roles and responsibilities of parent associations and school councils.
