Five Hagaskóli students awarded for outstanding performance in MR math competition
On Tuesday, March 11, 69 Hagaskóli students traveled to MR to participate in the MR mathematics competition for primary school students. From Hagaskóli, 28 eighth-grade students participated, along with 19 from ninth grade and 22 from tenth grade.
In total, five Hagaskóli students ranked among the top 10 scorers in their respective grade levels and received invitations to a formal awards ceremony at MR held on March 30. The ceremonial hall was filled to capacity with students and their parents. A musical performance was presented, and Sólveig G. Hannesdóttir, principal and former Hagaskóli parent, introduced the school and its history. Einar Guðfinnsson, program director in mathematics, then announced the competition results and presented the awards.
All participating students will receive a sheet with their results, which they can obtain from their mathematics teacher.
The following Hagaskóli students placed among the top 10 in their grade level:
- 8th grade - Eyþór Orri Björnsson in class 8.EÁ tied for 2nd place.
- 9th grade - Steinn Atlason in class 9.ET tied for 2nd place.
- 10th grade - Hildur Óskarsdóttir in class 10.AHO and Tryggvi Kristinn Sveinbjörnsson in class 10.AÞH tied for 9th place, while Jannika Jónsdóttir in class 10.GS secured 3rd place.
Steinn, Tryggvi and Jannika placed among the top 10 in their grade level for the second time, which was specifically highlighted during the ceremony.
