Hagaskóli wins Reykjavík chess championship

Hagaskóli's championship chess team

Hagaskóli captured the Reykjavík chess championship for grades 8-10 last night following a nail-biting competition against Réttarholtsskóli.

Winning is always gratifying, but it's equally rewarding to see students participating in a chess tournament for the first time. The tournament follows specific protocols, including greeting opponents with a handshake before each match and exchanging the same courtesy when the game ends. Players must show respect to their opponents, avoid interfering with other matches, and maintain a quiet environment during play. While some students initially found these expectations challenging, everyone adjusted as the tournament progressed.
Although our A-team earned the gold medal, all participants are winners, and we are proud of these exceptional youth.
